Version 1.1.1: a complete background management experience
Today we’re releasing another update to Brix, our WordPress page builder, effectively bringing it up to version 1.1.1.
Before we dig into the details of this release, please make sure to also update the Evolve Framework to its latest version (currently 1.0.6).
This Brix update introduces a new way of managing section and column backgrounds. The background component has been reworked to include three key features:
- adding support for gradient colors,
- the responsive adaptation of backgrounds,
- adding support for overlays.
From this version you can select the type of the background (color, linear or radial gradient or image), and have the same settings replicated for the different responsive breakpoints that have been defined in your theme; if a background for a given breakpoint is left blank, it will inherit the default desktop behavior.
Overlays are part of this responsive overhaul. An overlay can either be a solid color with a particular opacity setting, a gradient (again with opacity controls), and an image, which can be repeated to create a pattern effect, of be left covering the entire area of the background.
Video backgrounds also received some love:
- a new setting introduces the ability to disable video backgrounds entirely on mobile devices,
- video backgrounds now support embeds from streaming services such as YouTube and Vimeo (via the embed
iframe
provided).
One minor change that we’ve also implemented is that backgrounds are now located in their own Background tab in the section and column editing modals.
This kind of changes are the ones we care about the most: not only they introduce new powerful possibilities, but also they make them accessible to users without fiddling with code.
So, have a look at the new background management in the online demo, don’t hesitate to give us some feedback about them and stay tuned for more exiting news on this very blog!
