How can I update my theme?

Important: when updating your theme, first of all, before beginning the update procedure, make sure to make a backup of the theme folder inside your WordPress themes folder, located in /wp-content/themes/your-theme.

Also, before downloading the updated package, make sure to read the version changelog, and the list of changed files.
To update the your theme, log into your ThemeForest account, head over to your downloads section and re-download the theme as you did when you first purchased it.

Extract the zip file’s contents, find the extracted theme folder, and upload it using a FTP client to the /wp-content/themes/your-theme folder in your server. Beware: this will overwrite the old files! That’s why it’s important to backup any changes you’ve made to the theme files beforehand.

If you didn’t make any changes to the theme files, you are free to overwrite them with the new files without risk of losing theme settings, pages, posts, etc. Backwards compatibility is guaranteed.

If you have made changes to the theme files, you will need to compare your changed files to the new files listed in the changelog below and merge them together.

We suggest to use the provided child theme, as it would not break the theme compatibility with future updates.
When switching from a previous WordPress installation, we warmly recommend that you regenerate the theme’s Media Library items thumbnails.

You can do that automatically, using a plugin like “Force Regenerate thumbnails”. Unused image sizes will also be cleared from your media library.

Can I disable the default lightbox plugin?

Sure. In order to avoid conflict and other issues, you might want to install a different plugin for the lightbox functionality: to do so, please disable the default one from the “Lightbox” tab in our options panel.

Can I install a different SEO plugin?

Yes. All of our themes come with a built-in SEO module. In case you want to use a specific plugin for your SEO needs (such as “WordPress SEO by Yoast” or “SEO Ultimate”), you might want to disable the built-in module first. You can do that from the “SEO” tab in the "Theme options" page.

Can I hide a particular element in the theme?

To hide an element on your page via CSS, you need to find the CSS selector and then use “display:none” on this selector e.g.

selector { display: none; }

You can use the “Custom frontend CSS” textarea under “Theme Options” > “Appearance” tab or via child-theme in the style.css file.

You can easily find CSS elements by using your browser inspector or Firebug, or view a quick guide here.

Theme hooks

All of our themes come with the ability inject additional markup and functionality in specific parts of the template to allow your custom-built functions to ‘hook into’ the layout. For more info about WordPress actions, please refer to the Codex page.

All the hooks available in each theme, as well as other relevant development informations, are available in the Dev section of our website.
